Inna Izviekova

Astrophysicist focused on optical and infrared studies of active galactic nuclei and nuclear transients, with particular expertise in spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, long-baseline variability and dust reverberation. I lead optical monitoring programmes and develop quantitative analysis workflows that connect continuum and line variability to broad-line-region visibility, circumnuclear dust structure and changes in the accretion state. My research combines ZTF, WISE/NEOWISE and large spectroscopic surveys with targeted telescope observations; X-ray, radio and H I measurements are used as complementary constraints on obscuration and host-galaxy context.

Active nuclei across spectra, time and environment

AGN variability, reverberation & nuclear transients

Optical and mid-infrared time-domain data are used to recover characteristic response timescales, trace colour and flux evolution, and constrain the geometry and thermal response of circumnuclear dust. Applications include phase-resolved WISE diagnostics, reverberation analysis and multi-component dust-echo modelling of obscured nuclear transients.

Optical spectroscopy of active nuclei

Spectral analyses separate stellar, AGN-continuum and Fe II contributions before modelling narrow- and broad-line emission. Line-profile and diagnostic measurements are used to constrain ionisation, obscuration and BLR visibility, with weak components tested through alternative model families, empirical nulls and injection–recovery experiments.

Multiwavelength nuclear context

Optical and infrared results are interpreted alongside complementary UV, X-ray, radio and H I measurements from archival surveys and the literature. The emphasis is on cross-survey consistency, aperture and calibration systematics, extinction and absorption, and a clear separation between direct measurements and model-dependent inference.

Host-galaxy structure, gas & environment

I quantify the large-scale context of active nuclei using calibrated imaging, deprojected structural measurements, Fourier modes, stellar-mass estimates and global H I profiles. This allows nuclear variability and obscuration to be interpreted alongside bars, disc asymmetries, atomic-gas content and the low-density environments of isolated galaxies.

Scientific reasoning for AI training & evaluation

For scientific AI training and evaluation, I contribute domain-level physics and astronomy expertise: designing technically demanding tasks, constructing reference solutions and scoring criteria, auditing model-generated calculations, code and scientific arguments, and testing whether conclusions remain valid under alternative assumptions and independent checks. The work focuses on rigorous verification of scientific reasoning, quantitative consistency, methodological soundness and evidential support.

Scientific computing & validation

Python-based analysis pipelines, Monte Carlo and bootstrap uncertainty estimation, residual diagnostics, alternative model families, injection–recovery experiments, and cross-checks against independent observations.

Scientific AI training, evaluation & benchmark design

Domain expertise translated into well-specified scientific tasks, reference reasoning and evaluation criteria; assessment of AI-generated code and quantitative arguments for internal consistency, evidence use, model assumptions and physical validity; and systematic analysis of failure modes.
